About Glad's House

‘Glad’s House’ provides support for street children in Mombasa. Our primary aim is to get as many children as possible repatriated with their families.  When that is not possible, then back into full time education.

For those who can perhaps even places in higher education.  For the less academic children or those too old to return to school, we aim to get them into apprenticeship schemes where they can learn a trade and achieve gainful employment.

Glad’s House has a strong link with Golf. Our caddie project at Vipingo Ridge Golf course is just one example of such a programme. Vipingo Ridge lies 30 miles north of the city and is one of East Africa’s most desirable clubs. Here, with the help of Glad’s House, as many as 60 young people are being provided with the opportunity to experience life changing training. As part of the scheme the youngsters are provided with an understanding of the principles of golf and caddying by European Tour Caddies Association (ETCA) volunteers. This project is partially funded by the European Tours charitable arm – the Tour Players Foundation

They are provided with steady employment under the supervision of two experienced social workers. When they are not working the young caddies live with local foster families.

Our next challenge is to build a residential centre to help to house the street children needing further support. With your help we can make a difference and help to drive the lives of more young people forward…
